How to Make Herbal Tea

One of the best things about herbal tea is there really isn't just ONE way to make it. Hot, cold or brewed in the sunshine - find your favorite and enjoy! 💚

Hot Tea

  • Add 1–2 teaspoons of loose-leaf tea per 8 oz of water to your infuser.
  • Pour hot water over the herbs.
  • Cover and steep for 5 minutes.
  • Strain and enjoy!

Covering your tea while it steeps helps keep all that beneficial herbal goodness from escaping with the steam.

Like a stronger cup? Add a little more tea rather than steeping it longer. Some herbs, like chamomile and peppermint, can become bitter when over-steeped.

Cold Brew

Cold brewing is one of my FAVORITE ways to make herbal tea, especially during an Arkansas summer!

  • Add 1–2 teaspoons of loose-leaf tea per 8 oz of cold water.
    • I usually add extra tea when cold brewing.
  • Cover and place in the refrigerator.
  • Let it steep 4-8 hours or overnight.
  • Strain, pour over ice and enjoy!

Cold brewing can bring out different flavors than hot brewing and usually makes a nice smooth, refreshing cup.

Sun Tea

  • Add 1–2 teaspoons of loose-leaf tea per 8 oz of water to a clean glass jar.
  • Cover and place in direct sunlight for 2–4 hours.
  • Strain, pour over ice and enjoy!

Make It Your Own

These measurements are a starting point, not a hard rule. Like your tea stronger? Add a little more. Prefer it lighter? Use a little less.

And don't be afraid to mix it up! The same blend can taste surprisingly different depending on how it's brewed. Try your favorites hot AND cold and see which way you like them best.

Drink it plain, add honey, pour it over ice or add a squeeze of lemon.

The best cup of tea is the one YOU enjoy drinking! 💚
